The Details
According to an article in the Montgomery County Police Reporter the 18-wheeler accident took place shortly after 1 a.m. on US 59, in an area between FM 1314 and Community Drive. When the Porter Fire Department arrived, first responders found the woman lying on the freeway in the southbound lanes. The truck was in the northbound lanes and had extensive damage on its side and front end.
The truck’s fuel tank was ripped open in the accident, spilling diesel fuel that had to be cleared by a local environmental company. Department of Public Safety officers investigating the accident reported that the driver of the truck was changing from the right lane to the left. The officer, according to the article, stated that the truck driver did not see the car while changing lanes, and pushed it into the concrete barrier. The car went over the barrier and the woman was ejected. She was taken to a Houston hospital in critical condition.
