Police have identified the 16-year old victim who died in a car crash January 5. Her name was Samantha Agular. She crashed into a concrete ravine on Lake June Road. Her car burst into flames, and she was reported dead soon after. Police have yet to find out if there were any other victims in the car.
Defensive Driving For Young Drivers
At the age of 16, young drivers are given the opportunity to obtain a driver’s liscence and get their first taste of freedom. It’s exciting, but teens have to be careful. The smallest mistake can turn into a big accident. Defensive driving is the easiest way to protect yourself on the road as a young driver. A few common defensive driving tips are:
- Keep your cell phone off. It’s tempting to want to check your phone while you’re driving, but it’s not necessarily the safest thing to do.
- Turn on your headlights. Your headlights make it easier for other cars to see you. The best time to turn your headlights on are at dawn and dusk of everyday.
- Obey the speed limit. A lot of accidents happen because someone was driving too fast, and lost control of his or her vehicle.
- Get a safe car. New car models have been implementing safer air bags, anti-lock breaks, and electronic stability control.
