On the morning a June 22, a head-on collision injured two people in Lewisville. The accident occurred just before 5 a.m. and was apparently caused by one of the vehicles traveling the wrong way.
According to this article, a Lewisville Country Sheriff’s Department deputy came upon the accident, which had taken place near the intersection of Interstate 45 and Live Oak Street. One of the vehicles, according to a department spokesperson, was going the wrong way on an elevated portion of the roadway. Both drivers were pinned in their automobiles, but fire-rescue personnel were able to extricate them and take them to area hospitals. No other information on the condition of the victims was released.
A Devastating Situation
A head-on collision is, of course, one of the most devastating kinds of vehicular accident that can occur – in many instances resulting in fatalities. This is especially the case when a smaller car collides with a larger vehicle such as an SUV or a truck. Typically, the cause of this type of wreck – much like the one described above – is the negligent action of one of the drivers. Here are some of the more common reasons these accidents occur:
- Too much speed
- Driving the wrong way on a one-way street or highway entrance ramp
- Driving while drunk
- Distracted driving
- Falling asleep
The range of injuries from this type of accident is vast; these include head injuries from hitting the windshield or dashboard, ribcage and chest damage from the steering column, facial cuts from broken glass and broken arms and legs caused by the steering wheel and dash collapsing. However, there may be other types of muscular injuries that won’t be apparent for weeks.
