A motorist died in a tractor-trailer accident on May 9 in Cleburne. The accident took place on U.S. Highway 67 when the truck hit the car as it was merging onto the highway. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene while the truck driver suffered only minor injuries. Police were still investigating the cause of the accident as of this writing.
Another Tractor-Trailer Accident Tragedy
While it was early in the investigation and no blame had yet been assigned, this is yet another example of how tragic a tractor-trailer accident can be. There are many different reasons why these types of tragedies occur, not only in Texas but throughout the nation. In some instances, the truck driver is distracted due to using a smartphone or some other device. Truck drivers sometimes operate their rigs under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Many times, however, a tractor-trailer accident will occur because the driver is trying to meet an unreasonable deadline set by his or her employer. Drivers are required to take periodic rest stops after being on the road for a certain number of hours, but they will sometimes bypass this requirement because they feel their jobs will be in danger if they don’t.
Trucking companies can also contribute to accidents by failing to properly maintain their vehicles. It is, unfortunately, not at all uncommon for a tractor-trailer accident to take place due to worn tires or worn out brakes. There are other instances where the manufacturer of a defective part may be to blame.
