In Garland, a woman was killed as she tried to cross the lanes of I-30 at 10:30 pm. Sadly, she was hit by a blue Volkswagen that was traveling eastbound on the freeway. The vehicle could not stop in time and hit 54-year-old Kathy Bridges. She died at the scene, and the three people inside the blue Volkswagen were treated for minor injuries. It was determined that the driver was not at fault as Kathy did not yield appropriately. Our thoughts are with Kathy’s family and friends during this difficult time.
What to Do When You Are Involved in an Accident on the Freeway
When you are involved in an accident on a fast-moving freeway, it can be incredibly scary. The first thing to remember is to remain calm. You cannot act quickly if you are in a panic. Immediately try to get off of the freeway if you can. Pull to the side of the shoulder and call for emergency assistance. Let the 911 operator know where you are and any injuries that you or anyone else involved may have. After calling for help, wait in your car if you can and try not to move. You may have injuries that you can’t feel right away. Then do the following:
- Get checked thoroughly by a medical professional for injuries.
- Save all medical bills and damage estimates.
- Do not talk to the insurance company or settle without talking to an attorney.
- Schedule a free consultation with a local car accident attorney
