New Year’s Day Car Accident Leaves One Child Dead, Four Injured

New Years Car accidentEveryone knows that New Year’s Day is notoriously dangerous time to drive. Unfortunately, this year in Plano, an accident took the life of a 10-year old little girl and injured four other people. The Lewisville Morning News reported that at about 1:15 am, the driver ran a red light and struck two vehicles. Authorities arrested the man who they believe caused the crash that then fled the accident scene. Police haven’t said that alcohol was the cause of the crash, but officers are still currently investigating.

What to Do When Someone Flees the Scene of an Accident

If you have been struck by another vehicle and are not hurt, it is normal to get out of your car and exchange information. However, what do you do when someone has hit you, you are hurt, and they flee the scene? You will first want to call for emergency medical attention by dialing 911. Alert them that you have just been involved in an accident and the other vehicle has left. Try to remember the make, model, and color of the car. If you can, attempt to get a glance at the license plate. Even a partial plate can help authorities catch the perpetrator. Do not approach the car if the driver seems angry or irate. Do not try to stop the car yourself. This can lead to disastrous consequences.
