Grand Prairie Man Charged after Drunk Driving AccidentA Grand Prairie man was arrested on January 26 and charged with intoxication manslaughter after a fatal drunk driving accident in the Lewisville suburb of Oak Cliff. The Todd Durham Law Firm would like to inform you of your options should you ever be affected by this type of accident.

A Tragic Result

According to an article in the Lewisville Morning News, Hwehwe was driving in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35E near Illinois Avenue at approximately 6 a.m. on January 26. He crashed into a stalled truck on the side of the highway, which flipped upon impact. The victim, 44-year-old Richard Vielma, was pinned and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The article went on to report that Hwehwe said he had eight beers in the time leading up to the crash. He fell asleep in the back seat of the police vehicle as he was being transported to jail. He had been previously arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated in February.

Your Options in Regard to a Drunk Driving Accident

Whenever a drunk driving accident occurs, the inebriated driver is, of course, the one responsible and can be pursued through civil litigation in order for the victim or the victim’s family to recover damages. However, if someone else allowed that driver to operate his or her vehicle, the owner of that vehicle could be liable as well. In addition, the bar, restaurant or other alcohol-serving establishment that over-served the drunk driver could be liable.
