Early last week, a teenager from Fort Worth died. Just one day after being critically injured in a car accident that closed Interstate 30 in Arlington, Cassandra Contreras, 17, was pronounced dead. She was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital shortly after the incident. As of right now, a medical examiner has not announced the cause of death. She was one of three vehicles involved in the wreck, though. It’s always sad to see a young life extinguished so early.
The Accident
According to family, Cassandra was on her way home after a getaway to Six Flags Over Texas. On I-30, near Center Street, Cassandra and two other vehicles collided. Arlington police claim a Chevrolet Suburban was entering the westbound lane of the highway, but then swerved to avoid another vehicle. Their paths crossed. The car spun out, slamming into the pickup truck Cassandra was riding in.
As of this week, authorities are still investigating the accident, though they have not released any additional information regarding other injuries. A nurse from Medical City Arlington Hospital witnessed the entire event. She stopped her own vehicle to administer aid to Cassandra.
